I Think About Death

I Think About Death

I Think About Death

I think about death
about being old and pale,
hands shaking, bed-bound
adult diapers, left alone.

I think about death
about cancer eating my insides,
a quarter of the man I used to be,
a hospital bed, machines humming
my last words, my last breath.

I think about death
that sudden fall, dead weight on the floor
claimed by a heart attack, gone for good,
no final sorries or goodbyes.

I think about death
burnt alive in a plane crash,
pulped in a car accident,
drowned in a sunken boat.

I think about death
losing the love of my life,
losing my child,
still breathing, having lost all meaning.

I think about death
of lives lost to war, hatred and greed
of bodies drowned in the rubble
of cries buried within more cries.

I think about death
the end of desires and suffering
the body I cared for
the life I coveted.

I think about death
do I want to live forever?
the infinite cycle of hope, love and regret
forever witnessing the world's glory and despair.

I think about death
the beauty of it, the promise it brings
the end of both pain and pleasure
anytime for everyone.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Every Thursday, I share a short reflection - something simple, honest, and thought-provoking. The kind of idea that takes only a few minutes to read, but stays with you for much longer. No hype, no overwhelm, no inbox clutter. Just space to think. If that sounds like the kind of rhythm you appreciate, you’ll feel at home here.

Mudit is a thinker and writer exploring the questions, contradictions and tensions that shape how we live. His work draws from philosophy, psychology, history and spirituality, but is ultimately driven by curiosity about people, ideas and the world around us.
